teaching you

William founded Mentality, and he's still the one on the mats. Small enough that the coaches know your name and what you're working on. Big enough that there's always someone your size to train with.

What we teach

Three ways in

Adults, kids, and striking. Every program has a starting point for people with zero experience — you are never dropped into something you are not ready for.

Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu

Grappling and ground control. No striking, no getting hit. It rewards technique and patience over size and aggression, which is exactly why it works for people starting in their thirties and forties.

  • Gi and No Gi sessions
  • Beginners paired with experienced training partners
  • Weekday evenings, plus Tuesday and Thursday lunch
About Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Kids Jiu Jitsu class with coach William Moraes at Mentality Jiu Jitsu

Kids · Ages 4–14

Kids
Jiu Jitsu

Two age groups so a four year old is never on the mat with a fourteen year old. We build confidence, listening, and the instincts to handle themselves, taught in a way that keeps it fun — and it has already produced kids champions on the competition mats.

  • Ages 4–7 and 8–14, taught separately
  • Weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings
  • Parents welcome to watch every session

Muay
Thai

Striking, pads and conditioning. The fastest fitness in the building and the easiest place to start if you have never trained — you work at your own pace from the first round.

  • Technique, pad work and conditioning
  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings
  • Gloves available if you don't have your own
About Muay Thai

New to this?

Never trained before?
You're who we built this for.

Most people who walk through our door are nervous, out of shape by their own judgement, and certain everyone else will be better than them. That describes almost everyone on our mats in their first month.

No fitness required

Turning up
is the training

You don't get fit before you start jiu jitsu — you get fit by doing it, at whatever pace your body allows on day one.

Not the oldest

Thirties, forties
and up welcome

A good share of our adult class started with no background in any sport, in their thirties or forties. Technique beats athleticism here.

No gear needed

Turn up in
shorts and a t-shirt

Nothing to buy for the trial. If you decide to keep training, we'll point you at exactly what to get.

My son and I both train at Mentality. It’s an amazing environment for both kids and adults. The coaches are great and super helpful with students of all abilities. Highly recommend checking them out

Mentality Jiu Jitsu is fantastic. My kids love going there every week. The coaches are brilliant — not only highly skilled, but incredibly supportive and patient with the children. They create a positive, structured environment where the kids feel encouraged, safe, and motivated to improve.
It’s such a great place for kids to learn, stay active, and build discipline. You can tell they really care. I’d happily recommend it to any parent.

If you’re looking for a place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, improve your skills, and be part of a great community, I highly recommend Mentality Jiu Jitsu. The instructors are not only highly skilled and experienced, but they also create a welcoming and respectful environment for everyone—beginners and advanced practitioners alike.
